Photo Diary: Muzium Negara

It’s a shame to admit that only after 20 years of being born and raised a Malaysian, I can only now say that I have visited the National Museum. It has always been on my bucket list, so getting to scratch that off my list felt pretty satisfying.

Walking down aisle upon aisle of ancient fossils and artifacts felt as if I was walking into a real life history textbook. As someone who was never fond of history lessons in high school, I can only say that our National Museum does have some pretty cool stuff to look at. I mean, it’s not a wide selection of must-see artifacts but at least, I got to see (and touch, oops!) the actual bicycle rode by the Japanese troops in 1941.

It took me a while to visit the museum because finding someone who shares the same genuine interest in visiting the museum with is equivalent to seeking a black cat in a coal cellar. With Lady Luck on my side, I’m glad to have found someone who sees eye to eye with me. Someone who enjoys the calmness of the museum just as much as I do.

Nowadays, people often limit the places they go just for the sake of having a beautifully curated feed on Instagram. To be honest, yes, our National Museum may not be as “Instagram-worthy” as The Guggenheim but heck, it is the home of our country’s history. Now, that you won’t find anywhere else.

So, the next time someone turns you down and tells you that the place you wish to visit is not “worthy” enough, do not be affected by their pessimistic mindset. Instead, go with someone who loves the museum as much as Kanye loves Kanye because trust me, you WILL enjoy it more than you expected.
